When looking at all the Intercept Technology barrier packaging photos across the web, (there are many) as well as on the Liberty Packaging web site, surely it can be a bit confusing. Why are there dark-colored Intercept films, copper-colored Intercept film, and white-colored Intercept films? How can small, sensitive items and such large items as helicopters and drilling rigs be protected with the same material? One might ask “how can our important products be protected by the same packaging as other products that don’t even look like ours?”
Let us explain. One of the virtues of the Intercept Technology is that it works the same way no matter what the size or style of the product being protected or the Intercept film being used. Intercept plastic film sacrificially reacts with and eliminates atmospheric gases that cause corrosion, inhibits mold and mildew, AND dissipates dangerous electro-static charges. Intercept creates an inert micro-environment on the inside of the pack so your product is not under attack from the atmosphere. With all Intercept products, whether the item protected is big or small, robust or sensitive, Intercept will protect the same way, every time.
The dark colored film (very deep brown; looks black in the photos) is Static Intercept. Please don’t be confused by its name; Static Intercept has corrosion, mold and mildew, and ESD protection. Static Intercept is available in 3 mil., 4 mil., and 6 mil. thicknesses; there are a number of bag and shroud sizes available on shelf to ship immediately. Since Static Intercept is heavy duty barrier material, it is the most widely used Intercept product; available in stock or custom bags and shrouds, rolls up to 8’ wide, and sheets and bags as small as 2”x2”. Any size of shroud can be configured. Static Intercept can be laminated to various substrates such as foams and fabrics.
The white “marshmallow” packages in the photos is a film called Intercept Shrink Film (ISF). ISF is a co-extruded film with Static Intercept as the inside layer and a rugged exterior polyethylene film as the outside layer. Since heavy duty barrier protection ISF has UV (ultra-violet) protection inserted in the outside skin, it can be used for outdoor protection situations. ISF can be heat shrunk or not, depending upon the customer’s needs. One huge advantage is that ISF is available in thick gauges up to 8 mil. and large 14’ and 20’ width rolls. Some customers like ISF large rolls for wrapping multiple sizes of equipment; one product to do it all. Others have had us convert the ISF to bags to take advantage of the thicker gauges and/or UV properties.
All Intercept products can be taped in place or heat sealed. All Intercept can be used in long or short term barrier protection. Questions? Please contact us below.
Intercept Technology Packaging products fit within a sustainability strategy because they are reusable, recyclable, do not contain or use volatile components (No VOCs, Not a VCI) and leave a smaller carbon footprint than most traditional protective packaging products.
