Kimberley, South Africa (home to the original DeBeers mine) was the second city in the world to have electricity, first installed in 1881. South Africa, more specifically Johannesburg, is now in an interesting position regarding electricity.
Fast forward to today. South Africa is the biggest consumer of electricity on the African continent, at 215 billion kWh (kilowatt hours) consumed each year, twice as much as Egypt consumes, 104 billion kWh, as of 2011. With an ever growing population and the biggest economic engine in Africa, these demands are surely on the rise.

The Packaging of Punxsutawney Phil

This year the ground hog, Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators and Weather Prophet Extraordinary (his actual full name, I am a sucker for formality) pronounced loud and clear, “Get ready for an early spring!” I was happy to hear this. The sportsman in me is begging to get outdoors after several months of being relegated to four walls of my apartment, with the occasional reprieve to the gym or the ski slopes. I am sure I am not the only one.

Our colleages in South Africa, Rhino Plastics, put together this music video (Daily Motion link below) that subtly, though impressively, shows the importance of Intercept Technology heavy duty barrier packaging for the prevention of corrosion.

Top Two Corrosion Definitions

As we approach the warmer, moister summer months, when corrosion is more prevalent, let’s address this simple question: “what is corrosion?” I spent an evening browsing the web for corrosion definitions, some were specific, some in the middle with regard to complexity, and some broader and more profound. Here are two of my favorites:

Safe Packaging for Guitar Strings....

....because for a guitarist, touching strings is personal.
If you have been in the music equipment business for any length of time, you may know of the copper Corrosion Intercept string bag pictured at left. Intercept Technology is a Bell Labs innovation which protects products from rust and corrosion, mold and mildew, and static charges. Intercept enables this protection while not releasing any volatile chemicals. Your products inside Intercept will remain fresh and your customers and employees are assured not to have complex chemicals on their fingers from playing your strings or in their lungs from inhaling.

What do little kids like? Loud horns, big locomotives, fast airplanes, cool cars, etc.
Anything that is big or fast or strong that pushes the limits of our imagination appeals to the inner child in all of us, some of us even let this inner child run wild and can truly enjoy “big boy toys”. That same philosophy applies to when you ask a child what their favorite animal is. You usually hear something like an elephant because it’s enormous, a shark because it’s scary, or a cheetah because it is fast.

I’m a Fan of Intercept Packaging: Protection for My Home Possessions
Posted by Joe Spitz on Apr 26, 2012 10:14:00 PM
This post continues my series on how I have implemented Intercept protective films for my home owners possession protection and how Intercept has limited me from having to buy the same things at the home improvement stores over and over again. Let me tell you about my over 20-year-old air conditioner unit. It is on its last legs. This story is not about the A/C solely, actually it is more about the back-up portable fans I save for when the A/C is down and needs repair.
